Are you needing some ideas to mix up your regular breakie menu? Or maybe BFD (breakfast for dinner) is getting a bit stale? Well this Sausage Egg and Cheese Waffle Breakfast Sandwich is DEFINITELY the cure for the common breakfast.
The best thing about this breakfast sandwich, other than the fact that it tastes amazing, is that it’s super quick and easy to make. You could make the waffle from scratch, but the kids love the whole grain frozen blueberry waffles from Trader Joe’s. So ya know, why mess with a good (or quick) thing?
And you don’t have to use blueberry waffles either. But the extra little bursts of sweetness go really well with the sausage, egg, and cheese combination. While we’re on the subject of the combination, the cheese is a very important component of this sandwich. Don’t be afraid!
You could use another type of cheese, but there’s something about the way American cheese melts, and goes perfectly with the sausage, egg, and waffle, that makes all the components a match made in heaven.
How to Make a Sausage, Egg, and Cheese Waffle Breakfast Sandwich
Ingredients:
- Breakfast sausage patties – either pre-formed or the tube (think Jimmy Dean) that you can slice into patties
- Eggs
- American Cheese
- Frozen Waffles
Directions:
- Start by browning the sausage patties
- When those are cooked, set aside and cover with foil so they stay warm
- Start the waffle toasting in the toaster oven
- Meanwhile, cook your egg in the same pan you cooked the sausage in
- Cook the egg to your liking, but our fave (and what we used in this recipe) is sunny side up – nothing beats that runny yolk!
- The trick to a perfect sunny side up egg is to turn the lid of the pan upside down, put a tablespoon of water in it, then put the lid on the pan with your egg in it. Cook for a couple of minutes on medium/medium-low heat. DON’T flip the egg!
- Once all the components are cooked, it’s time to assemble.
- The order I like is waffle, sausage patty, egg, American cheese, waffle
- Enjoy!
