Garlic Chicken Sausage and Broccoli Alfredo – Easy Homemade Meal

October 14, 2016 by Jennifer Leave a Comment

Since this Garlic Chicken Sausage and Broccoli Alfredo is made with chicken sausage and broccoli, I consider this  to be “health food”. And while it may not fall under the “diet food” category, I actually do think that it’s healthier than fast food or other junk foods. Even though it uses cream, butter, and cheese… these are still wholesome ingredients. Plus they just taste so damn delicious, who really cares!

I love when I can put together a yummy meal using ingredients I already have in the fridge. If you don’t have chicken sausage, or want to try something else, you could switch it up and use chicken, sliced steak, smoked sausage, salmon, or pretty much any protein you like.

How to Make Garlic Chicken Sausage and Broccoli Alfredo

Ingredients

  • 1 lb Garlic chicken sausage
  • 10 oz Chopped broccoli, lightly steamed (Trader Joe’s has one that you can cook in the bag so you don’t have to dirty another pot)
  • 1/2 White onion
  • 3 Cloves minced garlic
  • 2 Cups rigatoni (or penne, fettuccine, any pasta you have on hand)
  • 8 oz Half and Half (you may not need all of it)
  • 3/4 Cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 Tablespoons of butter
  • Olive oil
  • Dash of nutmeg
  • Couple shakes of crushed red pepper

Directions

1. Start a pot of water boiling and get your pasta cooking while you do the rest of the steps below

Cooking noodles
2. Slice the sausage on a bias

Sliced sausage
3. Chop the onion and mince the garlic

Chopped Onion
4. Drizzle a pan with olive oil and a tablespoon of butter, bring up to medium heat
5. When the butter has melted, saute the garlic, onion and sausage

6. When the sausage has browned, toss in your steamed broccoli
7. Pour in about 4 oz of the Half and Half
8. Add the other tablespoon of butter, nutmeg, and crushed red pepper
9. Stir for a couple minutes, then add the remaining half and half

Adding cream for alfredo
10. Now add the Parmesan cheese

Adding Parmesan cheese to alfredo
11. Stir for a few more minutes until the sauce begins to thicken
12. Add in your cooked and drained pasta, and stir all together

Toss ingredients together for sausage alfredo
12. Finish off with fresh black pepper, and more Parmesan
