Campfire S’mores Dip – The Ultimate Camping Goodness

August 8, 2017 by Jennifer 10 Comments

What is the first food that comes to mind when you think about camping? S’MORES! S’mores are such a camping staple, that I’d almost rather not go if we can’t have a camp fire to make s’mores with. I used to think that meant if there was a fire ban, might as well just stay home. But if that’s the case, I found these awesome pizza box solar oven s’mores. And I’m not even a sweets person.

There's nothing better when you're camping than this campfire s'mores dip

The one thing I don’t love about s’mores is that they can kind of be a lot of work. Yes, I know that sounds lazy. But after a day of camp activities (and possibly day drinking), the thought of roasting a marshmallow to toasty perfection can sometimes be a bit daunting. Then if you drop the marshmallow in the fire, forget about it.

So then I wondered what would happen if you turned all the components into a s’mores dip. Set it and forget it style. The family had their doubts on how well it would work. But sure enough they ended up eating their words, along with lots of ooey gooey goodness.

How to Make Campfire S’mores Dip

You will need: Aluminum foil, marshmallows, chocolate bar, graham crackers.

Start by getting a fire going in your fire pit. If you have a grill to put over the fire, great. If not, make sure to get a good bed of coals going that you can cook the s’mores dip in.

The process is really quite easy. First, you need to make a boat, or baking dish, out of the aluminum foil.

I recommend using heavy duty foil, and still double layering.

Tear two sheets approximately 14 inches long, and place on top of each other.

Fold up the sides so that it’s at least 2 inches deep.

Now place the marshmallows in the bottom of the foil boat.

Break the chocolate pieces on top of the marshmallows.

Now set it on the grill, or right in the coals if you don’t have a grill.

Keep an eye on it, but it will probably take 15-20 minutes or so to get the marshmallows and chocolate fully melted and gooey.

Once it’s at the desired consistency, take your graham crackers, dip, and enjoy. The best part is, you don’t have to wait 10 minutes between each delicious s’more!

This is a VERY good idea! With 3 smaller children flaming marshmallows is a constant danger! I love that you get the treat without the fire and it's a tiny bit less messy when you dip the graham crackers.....maybe!

Haha, it might be a close call... But yes I would say it's definitely maybe a little less messy:)

It sure would! And requires much less hand and face washing than a traditional s'more.

Yes! I'm not a marshmallow lover, so I love that that I can customize how marshmallow-y this is. And the chocolate actually melts! Great idea!

Thanks for sharing this take on the traditional smores. It just occurred to me that the kids might enjoy creating little personalized smores dips too and they could add whichever chocolate or addins they'd each prefer. They could really jazz up the dip with nuts or candy bars, flavored marshmallows, or crumbled cookies. ... yummy!
