Banh Mi Pizza | Easy, Delicious, and Oh So Flavorful

January 7, 2017 by Jennifer 1 Comment

Have you ever gone to a specialty pizza joint and wished you could eat there every day? Well once you put your creative thinking cap on, you won’t have to! You can easily mix and match all sorts of ingredients right from your fridge to keep pizza night fresh and exciting, and under budget (’cause let’s face it, specialty pizza joints are NOT cheap).

Slices of Banh Mi Pizza

Bánh Mì has become known as a Vietnamese sandwich, even though it actually just refers to the bread. I’m probably completely bastardizing the term by turning it into a pizza, but I feel like it describes the flavors really well.

Bánh Mì Pizza Ingredients

You may not have all the ingredients handy in your pantry, but they’re quite easy to come by.

Banh Mi Pizza Ingredients

  • 2 Pizza Shells – I love the frozen crust from Trader Joe’s. If they don’t have those I’ll use the pizza dough balls in the refrigerated section. If your store doesn’t have either of these, any other Boboli type pizza crust will work
  • Thai Sweet Chili Sauce
  • Shredded Carrots
  • Chopped Fresh Cilantro
  • Mozzarella Cheese
  • Chopped Pickled Vegetables – We use our homemade sweet and spicy pickled carrots that we made in the fall, but these days you can usually find pickled veggies hanging out with the other pickles in the grocery store.
  • Diced Pork – We used some cut up leftover pork tenderloin, but you could also brown up some ground pork, or even if you had un-sauced shredded pork lying around.
  • Lime
  • Sriracha

How to Make the Pizza

  • Start by preheating the oven per package directions on the crust you bought
  • Sprinkle some flour over the surface you’ll be working on
  • Place the crust on the work surface
  • Spread the Thai Chili Sauce around the crust just as you would pizza sauce

Making Banh Mi Pizza

  • Next, add the cheese
  • Then sprinkle the chopped pickled veggies, diced pork, chopped cilantro, and shredded carrots on top of the cheese

Banh Mi Pizza Raw

  • Now bake the pizza, again using the instructions on the crust package

Fresh out of the oven, banh mi pizza

  • When you’re ready to serve it, drizzle a bit of Sriracha on top, then finish off with a squeeze of fresh lime
