You know the feeling, when you can tell you have a little cold creeping up on you? I personally don’t really do medicine. I rarely even take preventative measures. I tend to just let the sickness happen, suffer through it, and move on with life.

I had heard, and often even advised, that brown liquor works miracles when it comes to curing a cold. Not being a huge whiskey or bourbon drinker, I’d never tested the theory out for myself. However, this winter seemed to be particularly bad for sickness, and there was a perpetual cold going around for months. When one day it appeared to have finally caught up to me, I thought Oh boy, this is it… my once-a-year bad cold is here. (It’s true, I have a great immune system and to tend to only get sick once or twice a year.)
I was feeling kind of adventurous that night, and my husband’s Airborne and whiskey happened to be sitting next to each other on the counter. I put two and two together… literally… and I kid you not, I felt like a million bucks the next day. I have since tried it a couple more times, largely because it also tastes delicious, and have yet to get sick. KNOCK ON WOOD!
The best part is, it’s ridiculously simple to make with these three steps, and you feel like a Doctor Bartender Extraordinaire!
- FIRST STEP – For this recipe make sure you’re using the original Zesty Orange Airborne. Place it in the bottom of a low ball (or 12oz glass) without any ice in it.
2. SECOND STEP – Fill the glass about halfway with water, and let the Airborne dissolve completely.
3. THIRD STEP – Fill the glass with ice, then pour two ounces of whiskey on top.
ENJOY – If you’re feeling fancy, garnish with an orange twist for a little extra Vitamin C.
Feel free to print this out and hang it on the fridge during cold season as a reminder.
