About

Welcome to The Search for Imperfection!

Hi, I’m Jennifer, or Jen, but Jenny only to a select few. I am a full time mom, full time wife, with a full time job, and a full time life, that I love to keep very full. If you’ve ever wondered whether or not you were “winning” at life…. be it parenting, spousing, meal planning, budgeting, or working. Or even just wish you could feed your inner creative, but are afraid it won’t be good enough. I’m here to tell you, you’re doing great, and yes you can.

How do I know? Because NONE of the above comes naturally to yours truly. That means that everything you’ll find on this site is completely feasible for anyone to accomplish. The bottom line is, if I can do it, you can do it. Because it’s not about being perfect, the joy is in the imperfection.

So what exactly will you find?

Parenting Tips – From pregnancy through elementary school. Stories about what has worked for us starting with nursing, to feeding, and overall raising amazing littles. As a working mom, I’ll also share tips on how to maximize your time with the fam.

Here are some Parenting posts you may want to start with: 6 Ways to Parent on Two Hours a Day, 10 Things I’ve Done That Should Get Me Fired as a Parent, The Best and Worst of Why I Nursed – What No One Tells You About Breastfeeding,

Foodie Stuff – I am very passionate about many things in life, most of which I write about on this blog. But one of my biggest passions is food (wine and cheese specifically, but there are very few meals I would kick out of bed). I even work in the food industry with my day job. I love putting unique flavors together, but truth be told I’m not that great of a cook.

That means everything you see here is simple enough for me to make, yet tastes good enough to serve at a dinner party and get rave reviews. Need a quick idea for dinner? Check out our Weekly Meal Plans. Forgot that you have to bring a side to that party tonight? I’ve got you covered with these Blue Cheese and Balsamic Topped Kettle Chips.

Homemaking Hints –  Spend a little bit of time in this category, and I bet you’ll be surprised at how easy it is to do fun projects like sewing your own reusable snack bags, or making your own nursery decor.

I’ll even show you how easy it is to throw a Pinterest-worthy birthday party with only a few days to prepare. I’m most proud of this Animal Shelter Donation Party, but I also throw a pretty mean Wine and Cheese Party as well.

Life Lessons – Last but not least, I want to show you how easy it is to live life a little greener, and enjoy the outdoors as much as possible. The Living category is also where you’ll find more personal posts on struggles such as the Third-Life Crisis.

You can also find me on Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, Twitter, and now in a new Facebook group called “What’s for Dinner | The Search for Delicious Meals”. And if you’re not a regular blog reader like me, you can sign up for periodic email updates on new articles posted over there on the sidebar under my mug.

About Jen at The Search for Imperfection

Husband not pictured by request, not because we don’t like him.

Why The Search for Imperfection?

I created The Search for Imperfection a while back when my corporate job was on the line, yet again. My mom turned me on to a couple of highly successful bloggers, and it sparked a passion in me that I wasn’t aware was there. I figured, if there were real people out there making a real living off of sharing their knowledge with the world, I wanted in!

Well it turns out, you don’t make millions overnight (shocker, I know), but luckily my “day job” came through and is now better than ever. That gives me the flexibility to spend more time creating practical, fun, and useful information for you to use in your everyday lives.

You may be asking “Why would I search for imperfection, it’s already pretty good at finding me?”

My goal is to help you find a balance between work-life, wife-life, mom-life and life-life. It can be pretty overwhelming, so I want you to stop holding back for fear of failure and imperfection. Instead, I want you to embrace those imperfections and seek them out. Because once you let go of that fear, the world becomes your oyster.

A Few Random Facts About Me

  • I did a semester in high school on a 131 foot wooden schooner, starting in the Caribbean and ending up in Boston.
  • I went through a pretty serious time of depression late high school/early college.
  • I became the General Manager of my first restaurant in Maine when I was 25 years old.
  • I met my husband in California 12 years ago. We moved to Utah 9 years ago (no we are not Mormon, not that there’s anything wrong with that). And we’ve been married for close to 8 years.
  • Our first kid was a 6 month old black labradoodle we got while living in California.
  • We now have two more beautiful amazing kids; a 2 year old boy and a 6 year old girl (we still have our first kid as well).
  • As a family we love camping and the outdoors.
  • My husband brews amazing beer, and someday I hope to have time to do more brewing with him.
  • I overuse ellipses… Have you ever seen the movie Garden State?
  • I am very sarcastic.
  • I recently started selling Scentsy… because I needed something to do with my spare time between midnight and 2:00 am.

I am passionate about helping you find the joy in life’s imperfections. I hope you’ll come back whenever you need a little encouragement. Thanks for stopping by!
